Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors for the Dh2 billion unleaded gasoline and low sulphur gasoline project which is gathering pace in the Ruwais area, according to an industry source.

The project is scheduled to be commissioned and handed over to Adnoc in June 2005. "At Ruwais many new storage tanks have already been built," said the source.

"The contract for the tankage works is assigned to Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CBI) which will be designing and erecting 29 miscellaneous flat bottom tanks for storage of various hydrocarbon products and utility commodities and three spheres for storage of butane and light naphtha isomerate," the official said.

"Al Jaber Energy Services and Target Engineering Construction Company has been engaged to carry out civil and building works, while mechanical, electrical and instrumentation will be undertaken by Al Jaber-LTA Engineering and Constructing (ALEC) and Lahoud Engineering Company."

The overall tankage works will be completed by June 2004 to enable Technip to complete the interconnecting pipe-work, instrumentation and civil works, he said.

He said: "The main technology provider is Universal Oil Product (UOP) of the US. The current manpower of 450 in Ruwais will increase over the next year to more than 2,000."

"More than 250 personnel are now working in Rome while part of the engineering effort is also being carried out at Technip's office in Abu Dhabi," said a Technip spokesman.
