DUBAI — UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi said he has no plans to leave office, denying a report on Dow Jones that he would step down as early as Dec. 18.
“This information is totally incorrect, groundless and without any merit whatsoever,” Al Suwaidi said in a telephone interview yesterday from Abu Dhabi.
Al Suwaidi may step down this month to be replaced by Chairman of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Dow Jones reported yesterday, citing a person familiar with the matter. The governor may leave following continued pressure to revalue the dirham against the dollar, Dow Jones had reported.
