The announcement came close on the heels of the group’s flagship Sunrise Restaurant bagging an international award for 2006 instituted by the Madrid-based Trade Leaders Club.

T.V. Sidharthan, managing director of Sunrise City Group, said the “New Millennium Award” was a strong endorsement to its philosophy of maintaining the highest standards of quality and service. “As we did in our supermarket business, a customer-centric approach and an emphasis on high quality service have stood us in good stead in the hospitality business.”

“The confidence our customers have reposed in us helped us to reach what we are today - a leading chain with six outlets in operation, and three more in the pipeline in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah. “We plan to expand our horizon by reaching out to other emirates in the near future,” Sidharthan said. “We have also plans to enter the hotel industry as the next logical phase of growth. In Kerala, the group has initiated a hospitality project in Guruvayoor.

The group, which has grown into a leading retailer since it opened the first outlet in 1977, ventured out into the restaurant business in 1998. “We had taken an innovative approach by setting a new benchmark in quality of service and ambience. We have not spared any efforts in our pursuit for excellence and this award is a recognition of this commitment,” said Sidharthan.

Sidharthan, who received the coveted award at a function in Madrid last week, has been declared as the winner of the 31st year award for the best establishment in the restaurant category.
