The HMZ-T1 is a wearable headset with two OLED screens and a 5.1-channel virtual surround sound that simulates a wide-screen movie theatre experience, allowing users to enjoy movies and games in high-definition and 3D in a whole new environment.

“As the leader in bringing 3D technology to the entire spectrum of product and content offerings in home entertainment… we are uniquely positioned to introduce the next path-breaking innovation in the 3D home entertainment segment,” Sony Gulf managing director Hiroyasu Sugiyama said in a statement. “With the Sony HMZ-T1, whether it is 3D gaming or watching a 3D movie, you can get the big-screen 3D imagery and the theatre-quality sound experiences at home and in the comfort of your favourite couch.”

The technology in the lightweight HMZ-T1 can also be found in Sony’s other recently-launched products, such as the Alpha SLT digital cameras A77 and A65, as well as the compact interchangeable lens digital camera NEX-7. The HMZ-T1 — which also offers an individualised fit — is compatible with other various devices such as 3D Blu-ray disc players and drives, as well as Sony’s PlayStation 3 gaming console and Vaio notebooks.
