Parents in the GCC—especially in the UAE—are discerning and fashion-forward, but significant gap exists in the regional market for curated, high-quality children’s fashion that truly reflected global luxury trends.
Sensing this Annelouise and Dominic Speakman founded Junior Couture in 2019, seeking to carve a niche in the market.
Excerpts from an interview:
What inspired you to launch Junior Couture back in 2019, and how did you carve a niche in the competitive children’s fashion market?
When we launched Junior Couture in 2019, we saw a significant gap in the regional market for curated, high-quality children’s fashion that truly reflected global luxury trends. Parents in the GCC—especially in the UAE—are discerning and fashion-forward, and we wanted to create a platform that brought the very best of international kidswear under one roof. Our approach was highly curated, focusing on exclusive partnerships, premium customer service, and culturally sensitive styling that appealed to local tastes. That niche positioning helped us stand out early on and continues to drive our brand today.
Can you walk us through the strategic thinking behind your 2025 retail expansion into Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and another Dubai location?
The 2025 expansion is a response to growing demand from our customer base across the UAE. While Dubai has been our flagship hub, data and feedback have shown strong interest from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah families who value convenience and in-person luxury experiences. Our decision was guided by market research, footfall analysis, and the shift in consumer behavior post-pandemic—where physical retail has reemerged as a space for brand immersion and personalized service. Opening another location in Dubai, especially in a premium destination, reinforces our commitment to accessibility and localized customer engagement.
What do you believe sets Junior Couture apart from other players in the luxury kidswear space?
We’re not just a retailer—we’re a destination. What sets us apart is our highly curated brand portfolio, exclusive collections, and commitment to delivering a premium shopping experience both online and offline. We blend international fashion sensibilities with an understanding of the GCC’s cultural preferences. Our styling services, content, and customer care are all tailored to meet the lifestyle and expectations of modern parents who want the very best for their children—without compromising on elegance or practicality.
How would you describe the evolution of luxury children’s fashion in the GCC over the last few years?
Luxury children’s fashion in the GCC has evolved from a niche indulgence to a mainstream expectation among affluent families. Parents today are style-conscious and want their children to reflect that same level of elegance. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a greater emphasis on seasonal collections, influencer collaborations, and even sustainability in kidswear. Digital access to global trends and the rise of social media have also accelerated this evolution, with brands responding by offering more tailored, fashion-forward pieces for children.
With the region’s young demographic and rising disposable income, how do you see the kidswear sector evolving in the next 5–10 years?
The next decade will be transformational. We anticipate continued growth in premium and designer kidswear, alongside a surge in demand for sustainable and ethically produced fashion. Personalization—whether in-store or digitally—will become more important, and so will tech-driven shopping experiences. The region’s youthful demographic, combined with its appetite for innovation and luxury, positions the GCC as a global trendsetter in children’s fashion rather than just a consumer market.
What’s next for Junior Couture beyond these three openings—are there plans to expand into other GCC countries or globally?
Absolutely. While our 2025 UAE expansion is a major milestone, we’re actively exploring opportunities in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar—markets with strong demand and cultural alignment with our brand. Globally, we’re evaluating select cities where there is a high concentration of Gulf tourists or diaspora communities who already know and trust the Junior Couture brand. Ultimately, our goal is to become the leading luxury children’s fashion platform in both the Middle East and key international cities.
