The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Khorfakkan Municipality are accelerating their plans for several new tourist destinations in Khorfakkan, that will add to the destination's appeal with tourists.
Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, and Fawzia Rashid Al Qadi, director general of the Khorfakkan City Municipality, reaffirmed the municipality's full cooperation, collaboration and support on the developments that are all either already underway or due to begin their first phases of development as part of the emirate's Dh5 billion investment in tourism by the year 2018.
The projects are being developed in partnership with the Khorfakkan City Municipality and additional government entities in Sharjah, and include Al Jabal Resort, Chedi Khorfakkan, Khorfakkan Flag Pole, Khorfakkan Corniche, as well as hotels and resorts.
"It is not just Sharjah as a city we are developing and promoting as an international destination, it is our mission to make Sharjah as an emirate a cultural and tourist hub. Khorfakkan has enormous potential as an attraction and increases the options we can offer our visitors. There are so many aspects, intricacies and individual qualities throughout Sharjah. We must capture and identify those in order for our guests to benefit from their differences and by diversifying Sharjah's existing tourism and hospitality markets we can position Khorfakkan as a potential central destination in the UAE," said Al Sarkal.
Al Jabal Resort, Chedi Khorfakkan is to be a mixed-use development with a hilltop fort, containing restaurants, spa, gym, business facilities and reception and 170 suites with seaside views. The gigantic Khorfakkan Flag Pole will fly 75 metres above the ground, and heralds the entrance to Khorfakkan City. The Khorfakkan Corniche Development project aims to redesign the 3km stretch of beach by providing high-quality public amenities, a range of activities and a variety of dining and hospitality options. Due to the size of the project, the development has been separated into two main stages - the stage one Southern Corniche and the stage two Northern Corniche.
