Sharjah making efforts to boost fairs and tourism

SHARJAH - Sharjahauthorities are puting in an extra efforts to boost the emirate's exhibition and tourism industries in the UAE to distinguish itself as the regional hub for exhibition and tourism sectors,said, Shaikh Tariq bin Faisal Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development, Sharjah Free Zone Authority, yesterday.

Speaking following the official inauguration of the Middle East 's Prime Leather event and tenth edition ofAl Hida'a Exhibition from 27 to 30 September 2003 in Sharjah Expo, Shaikh Tariq said: "The region's strong economic growth and the continuous increasing of business opportunities in the UAE have attracted large number of exhibitors from the neighboring manufacturing countries to seek an opportunity to display and feature their new products and look for partnership and joint venture in the region.

"The increasing interest of investors and manufacturers in the UAE markets has encouraged us to further develop the infrastructure."

The AGCC market for footwear and leather goods is estimated to be around US$ I billion of which the footwear market in the UAE is worth more than US$ 300 million a year.

The estimate demand for leather footwear in the UAE is 4 per annum for expatriates and 6 pairs for UAE nationals.The exhibition showcases the international leather industry latest trends, designs and options in finished leather products, as well as in leather materials and accessories.
