The official inauguration took place with Shaikh Hamdan cutting the ribbon to officially inaugurate the Dh3 billion project developed by Majid Al Futtaim Investments (MAF). After the ribbon cutting Shaikh Hamdan and Shaikh Mohammed were led to Ski Dubai, the first indoor ski resort with 5 different runs ranging in difficulties, snow covered hills and a chair lift.

On the ski slope, covered in 5,000 tons of fresh snow, UAE school children had the inaugural ski-down and then the VIP guests were entertained by a laser and pyrotechnic show followed by the Flying Ace All-Stars, a group of professional skiers with experience ranging from the Winter Olympics to the X-games. The skiers performed difficult ski jumps demonstrating the accommodating capabilities of the indoor ski slope which has a year round temperature between -1 and -2 degrees celsius.

With a slope height of 80m, and a width greater than the average motorway, the snow park has a capacity of 1500 people and offers a variety of activities for people of all ages and skill levels. For experienced skiers there are black runs at the top of the ski hill, while for snowboarders there is a quarterpipe and tricks area.
