At the ADCCI yesterday, Mohammed Khalifa Al Habtoor, former speaker of the Federal National Council and Chairman of the Higher Consultative Committee of the Society of Engineers, said the objective behind the initiative is to bring to the fore and recognise engineering works of value in the sector of building and construction and contribute to preserving the architectural heritage of the country. A booklet explaining the rules governing the award will be available to engineers, consultants and officials in government bodies.

The awards fall into the three categories of distinct architectural project, preservation of architectural tradition and research into architectural tradition.

Al Habtoor pointed out that the engineering sector, encompassing various specialisations such as construction, industry, petroleum, agriculture and technology, is rated the largest economic sector.

This is true in terms of human resources with the sector as well as its contribution to the GDP of the country.
