Selfies are as ubiquitous as they can get, so Sony Mobile Communications decided to up the ante in capturing those really personal moments.
The Tokyo-headquartered technology giant on Tuesday announced the launch of its latest smartphone, the Sony Xperia XA Ultra, promising to be the "master of selfies" under any situation.
The newest addition to Sony's Xperia X series boasts a borderless six-inch display full-HD with curved glass, two days of battery life and upgrades to its main selling point - its cameras; the main 21.5MP camera is definitely stellar, the Xperia XA Ultra's main feature is its front camera, coming with a massive 16MP and "super low-light capabilities".
While Sony is not the first device-maker to put a premium on selfie functions - and the Xperia XA Ultra certainly is not the first from the company as it has released a number of them, the Xperia C5 Ultra being among the most recent ones - it has further dedicated its efforts to add more value to one of the most key aspects of mobile devices.
The Sony camera technology used in the Xperia XA Ultra, which has renowned low-light sensors, helps achieve sharp, bright, blur-free shots every time and features a smart selfie flash to naturally illuminate a face for night scene selfies. Additionally, it benefits from the optical image stabilisation system to counter hand shake for both photos and videos.
Another feature is the hand shutter; a user just needs to raise his or her hand and the shutter timer will start to count down
Users can also use one-handed operation mode, which shrinks the display akin to smaller-sized devices.
Sony Mobile also put a premium on battery life; the Xperia XA Ultra gets up to two days of battery life from a single charge. Complementing this is the Quick Charger UCH12, which gives 5.5 hours of battery life in just 10 minutes. Additionally, the integrated Qnovo adaptive charging technology makes sure the lifetime of the battery is extended.
The Xperia XA Ultra will be available in graphite black, white and lime gold from July in selected markets. Covers - including the Style Cover Flip, which offers auto on/off for the screen when opening and closing the case - will also be made available.
The breakthrough model comes on the heels of Sony Mobile Communications' recent announcement of the appointment of Jason Smith as its new vice-president for the Middle East and Africa. Smith has been part of Sony Corporation for the past 16 years, spearheading different markets in Asia and South Africa.
The new vice-president's focus will be to develop further the partnerships with operators and distribution partners throughout the region, while continuing to strengthen Sony Mobile Communications' business in MEA markets.
