With this industrial plant, Scania will become the first automotive assembler in the UAE and will supply vehicles to the whole GCC, a Press statement said.

The Scania assembly plant is the Swedish auto giant’s first such facility in the region.

Located in a 20,000 square metre industrial site in Jebel Ali Free Zone, or Jafza, the Green Building, Gold LEED certified facility meets the highest environmental standards.

The installation will have the capacity for customisation of about 1,400 vehicles per year. Operations will initially include vehicles for construction haulage such as tipper and concrete trucks, but the facility will also be used for bus chassis assembly in the future.

“We at Jafza, are honoured to play host to the first auto assembly unit in the country. Dubai and Jafza in particular is well placed with the region’s largest container port offering all forms of logistic support to companies looking for easy access to the Middle East, West Asia, the CIS and African markets. These facilities will fully support Scania’s growth plans in the region,” Salma Hareb, CEO of Economic Zones World, said.

Salma Hareb met with top Scania executives visiting the facility. The delegation included Bruno Beijer, the Swedish Ambassador to the UAE.

Scania has been operating in the region for more than 30 years. Through the new facility, Scania aims to focus on strengthening operations in non-traditional vehicle segment.
