Qatar invites interest in 2nd mobile phone licence

DUBAI - Qatar on Monday invited companies to express an interest in the country’s second mobile phone licence, and said it would award that and a fixed-line licence before year-end.

Companies have until May 27 to express their interest, the the state’s Supreme Council of Information & Communication Technology, said in a statement.

The council said it will invite companies in the next few months to express an interest in the fixed-line licence. It did not give details.

The Qatari government in November said it would end the monopoly of state-controlled Qatar Telecommunications Co. QTEL.QA.
