The permit, issued on March 30, 2004, and valid till March 29, 2005, was handed over on April 18 to Tanvir Khawaja, member of the PBC board of directors who was unanimously elected PBC president as per the PBC constitution at a meeting on April 18 held under the chairmanship of Ahmed Al Banna, deputy director-general of the DCCI, and also attended by Tariq Hilal Lootah, manager trade services and industrial development, and Khaldoun Akram Al Tawshi, economic researcher trade and industry development department of the DCCI.

Abdul Rahman G. Al Mutaiwee, director-general of the DCCI, said in a letter to Tanvir on PBC joining the family of business councils in Dubai under the umbrella of the DCCI, "We hope that the council will achieve the targeted objectives of the business councils in Dubai by further enhancing the businesses of its members in trading, administrative, professional and services fields and strengthening the cooperation between its members and the business community in the UAE."

The permit has been issued pursuant to the provisions of the Law No. 8 for 1997 on the Organisation of DCCI and the authorisation of the court of His Highness, the Ruler of Dubai.

Tanvir said at a Press conference yesterday that the PBC forum will provide an excellent opportunity to help flourish business and commerce, gather accurate market information, promote and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

He said that a general body meeting of the PBC is expected to be held within two weeks and a request for this has been made to the DCCI.

He said that clarifications in the constitution and the by-laws of the PBC, if necessary, will be carried out in consultation with the legal department of the DCCI.

He said that there was no misunderstanding regarding the establishment of the PBC with the Pakistani embassy and the consulate.
