There has been fear that decades of enmity between the two could spill over into all-out war
The Passion Diamond Shoes are made of diamonds and gold. They feature hundreds of diamonds, together with two imposing D-flawless diamonds of 15 carats each. Previously, Debbie Wingham high heels were considered the most expensive footwear costing $15.1 million (Dh55.4 million).
Jada Dubai, in collaboration with Passion Jewellers, designed and created the luxury footwear over a period of nine months. The pair of shoes on display is a prototype 36 size of European Union standard, but it will be made in a specific size provided by the customer after the sale.
During the event, Jada Dubai will also launch three more limited edition creations made with diamonds, rubies, gold and pearls. The new collection includes the Diamond Pearl sandals ($25,000), the Ruby Stilettos featuring rubies, gold and diamonds ($27,000) and the Diamond and Gold stilettos ($17,000). All prices are inclusive of five per cent value-added tax.
"Jada Dubai designs only shoes with diamonds. For the launch of our second collection, we wanted to create a piece that is truly unique in the world using very rare diamonds," Maria Majari, co-founder and creative director of Jada Dubai, who designed the shoes, told Khaleej Times.
"We signed a collaboration with Passion Jewellers that provided us with the rarest diamonds we were looking for," she said, adding that approximately 50 guests, including VIPs, ultra-high net-worth individuals and media are invited to the launch event.
Fixed price
To a question, she said the $17 million price for the Passion Diamond Shoes is fixed and there will be no sales at the event. "There will be only one pair of the Passion Diamond Shoes in the world," the co-founder said.
"We started this project right after Jada Dubai's first collection launched in January 2018. The time required was nine months as we had to choose the perfect diamonds for such an exclusive pair of shoes.
"We had to prototype many shoes in Italy in order to find the perfect shape, perfect heel and the perfect colour. Even inside, the logos of both companies are made of gold, which is very thin, so it will be very comfortable for walking," she elaborated.
Asked why they chose Dubai to launch the most expensive footwear, she said: "Our product identifies with the glamorous city of Dubai and both the companies that created the shoes are from the UAE. We chose the Burj Al Arab hotel for the launch because it identifies the best with our product."
