Oman government H1 
revenues rise by 30.5%

MUSCAT — Oman government revenues jumped by 30.5 per cent in the first half of the year, according to new figures released here by the Ministry of National Economy. Revenues totalled RO4,220.7 million, compared with RO3,235.1 million in the same period of 2009. The ministry attributed this to a 54 per cent surge in net oil net revenues from RO2,841.6 to RO1,844.9 million.

Gas income grew by 21.7 per cent to RO445.7 million from RO366.1 million.

Earnings from custom duty rose by 29.5 per cent to RO88.7 million from RO68.5 million, while capital revenues increased by 8.8 per cent to RO13.6 million from RO12.5 million.

Corporate income tax, however, fell by 29.4 per cent to RO227.2 million from RO322 million. Other revenues declined by 2.8 per cent to RO603.9 million from RO621.1 million.

Total expenditure rose by 8.8 per cent to RO3,517.9 million, against RO3,232.6 million, resulting mainly from a 5.8 per cent increase in current expenditure, which stood at RO2,119.5 million, compared with RO2,003.5 million. Investment spending was up by 7.9 per cent at RO1,146.5 million. Support for the private sector rose by 51.1 per cent to RO251.9 million from RO166.7 million.

The state budget achieved a surplus of RO702.8 million for the period, against a deficit of RO2.5 million in the first six months of last year. —ravindranath@khaleedjtimes.com
