Kapil Dev, Sube Singh and Prabakaran Sinnadhu excelled in the first set as NMC took it 25-17.

Al Jazira, who had defeated Total Office in the opening game of the tournament, fought back in the second set and were level with NMC at 4-4. 6-6, 12-12 and 17-17. But Azzez Nadapuram, Dev and Singh helped NCM pull away and they took the second set 25-21. It was similar in the third set as well with both teams locked at 12-12 before NMC showed their class to take it 25-22 and the match.

NMC’s Nadapuram was adjudged the Man of the Match.

“It was a good match though we did not get much time to prepare. But we have full confidence as we won it in 2010 and 2011,” said Dev, who has been a regular at the tournament.

Lifeline Hospital were boosted by the presence of players from Argentina, Germany, Ukraine, Brazil, Cameroon and Egypt as they overcame Bani Yas.

Lifeline were stretched to the limit in the first two sets which they eventually won 25-23 and 25-22. But Bani Yas made sure it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park for Lifeline Hospital as Walker and Saif came up with an excellent performance as they took the third set 27-25.

It was close in the fourth set as well before Lifeline Hospital took it 25-22 to win the game. With two defeats, Bani Yas are out of the tournament. Bani Yas had lost to Ocean Air Travels in their opening game. German Qvero Heribert, Brazilian Marcio Senoti, Argentine Sebastian Fernandez and Cameroonians Oliver Nongini and VoroninIgor were right on target with their smashes for Lifeline Hospital, while Walker and Saif starred for Bani Yas.

“It was a hard-fought match because most of us were travelling the whole night, and due to this, none of us could play well,” said Senoti.

The star of the night was Bani Yas’ American pro Joshua Walker as he sparkled with a fine showing. His effort earned him the Man of the Match award.
