The route, due to begin in August, will be served by an Airbus A330-200, and will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

“This new Luanda flight provides enormous potential to develop air travel into Angola,” Tim Clark, Emirates Airline president, said in a statement.

The new route follows the launch of Beijing-Luanda services by Air China and Angolan state airline TAAG late last year.

Angola has been one of the world’s fastest growing economies since the end of its 27-year civil war in 2002 and vies with Nigeria as Africa’s biggest crude exporter.

Many post-war reconstruction projects have received financing from Beijing, which flies in Chinese workers.
