NBD to open rep office in Iran next week

DUBAI National Bank of Dubai (NBD) is going to officially inaugurate its representative office in Iran next week. NBD was the first Gulf bank to open a rep office in Teheran last year.

The Dubai-based bank, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, also said that it will open its first branch in Fujairah this year marking a major development in its branch network in the country.

Abdulshakoor Hussain Tahlak, NBD's assistant chief manager, yesterday said that the bank has inaugurated a year of celebrations marking its 40th anniversary by unveiling a commemorative logo and pledging its commitment to tomorrow by continuing to pioneer new products and services.

The revised logo, which incorporates into the bank's stylised blue sail a richly scripted "40th Anniversary" in a form both contemporary and classic, will be used for this year only to mark the anniversary, Tahlak added. He said the bank will continue to come out with such logos to mark special anniversaries in the future also.

Douglas Dowie, NBD's general manager, said: "Incorporated in 1963 under a Decree issued by the late Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the bank opened its first branch in May of that year. Since then, NBD has been closely involved with the fortunes of Dubai and has been in constant partnership with the Dubai government in particular and, since 1971, with the Government of the UAE."

He also pointed out that NBD, the first locally incorporated bank in the UAE, has been a leader in bringing new services to its customers. It was the first bank to offer offsite ATM service, the first Arab bank to operate in Jersey, Channel Islands and the first local bank to open an office in Teheran. A leader in the Emiratisation process, NBD was the first bank in the UAE to have all its branches managed by UAE nationals.

The bank has been at the forefront of technological innovation with its online banking service, secure e-commerce solutions and its recently introduced account information delivery via mobile SMS.

"Today, as the bank inaugurates its celebrations marking 40 years of professional service, leadership in innovation and commitment to Dubai, it looks back at its history for inspiration and into the future for its direction. It was future-looking businessmen who founded the bank 40 years ago, and it is forward-looking directors and management today who guide the bank in its dedicated commitment to tomorrow," Dowie added.

The commemorative logo will be used on all corporate communication and signage throughout the anniversary year.
"This new logo will remind every employee and every customer that National Bank of Dubai has a proud heritage of excellence in service to its customers, to Dubai and to the UAE," Dowie said.
