Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum sports award function today

Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and Patron of the Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sports Creative Award, the winners of the second edition of the award would be honoured on Thursday during a special international ceremony to be held as part of the celebrations of the Accession Day of His Highness Shaikh Moahmmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The award is the most prestigious and precious of its kind worldwide. The ceremony will be held at 11am at Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made building in the world.

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was selected the Local Sports Personality in the Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award for 2010.

Al Khaleej newspaper got the local media award for the best sports coverage.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar was picked as the Arab Sports Personality of the Year. Thani was responsible to get the FIFA World Cup to the Middle East for the first time in the history of the FIFA event.

Ahmed Khalil of Al Ahli Club Dubai, former Asia Youth Player, was selected as the best promising player while Yahya Mansoor was picked for his brilliant performance in jiu jitsu competition.

Local soccer referee Ali Hamad got the award for his fine performance on controlling the game.

Others who won the awards included Al Ain Club, UAE bowling team, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Qatar Olympic Committee, gymnast Ali Mohammed of Jordan, 
coach Gama Mohammed Aden of Somalia, Sudan Athletic Federation, Shaika Nayma Al Hamad Al Saba from Kuwait for promoting women's sports, Tony Khoury from Lebanon, Feroz Moualla from Syria, Egypt Olympic Committee, and Younis Jawad from Morocco in the blinds category.
