The fairs will generate some Dh350 million for the local economy, according to Messe Frankfurt, the world's second largest and Germany's biggest organiser of international events.

In a statement, Messe Frankfurt Middle East said the money would come from the hotel-room occupancy and other hospitality spending by the personnel of 5,000 exhibitors from 100 countries, and the more than 50,000 visitors expected to attend the three-day programme.

It added that the ongoing trade fairs are a confirmation that Dubai is the exhibitor's fastest growing market for consumer electronics, professional lighting, kitchen and bathroom wares and fixtures, garden products and landscaping equipment, hardware, and tools and toys. "Dubai and Frankfurt share a common understanding on the benefits trade fairs bring to local businessmen, which far exceeds the transactions undertaken at the exhibitions themselves," said Eckhard Pruy, CEO of Messe Frankfurt ME. "Messe Frankfurt's motto is to make markets everywhere we go."

Meanwhile, Messe said the UAE is Germany's most important Arab trade partner, with the latter's exports to the former amounting to some Dh27 billion last year, a 25 per cent increase from 2005.

It added that more than 600 German companies have already set up businesses in Dubai, mostly in the free trade zones.

Pruy said the six exhibitions represent highly dynamic trade sectors and have grown by an average of 45 per cent in less than a year. "So the UAE and the broader Middle East region is a vital part of our overall international business strategy," he said.
