Richard Scholl, senior regional manager, MAN Nutsfahrzeuge, said the German truck manufacturer had configured a special range - the TGA WW - for markets outside Europe, particularly the Gulf region. The Dubai launch of TGA follows its introduction in the European market three years ago.

Scholl said the TGA, which took four years to develop, was subjected to 14 months of rigorous test in the UAE before its launch. "Climate extremes such as high temperatures and high humidity place extremely exacting demands on vehicle deployment. MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has modified the TGA for these challenging duties, thereby paying particular attention to the requirements of the UAE market. The result is the TGA Worldwide, designed with the aim of improving reliability and service capability under difficult conditions."

Rashid Darwish, director, United Motors & Heavy Equipment Co., partner and official agent for MAN commercial vehicles in the UAE, said if customers require the TGA WW can be supplied with large tyres, torsion - proof round fuel tanks, additional cyclone air filter and other equipment useful for deployment in this region.

He said for some years now MAN has been a leader in its class in the UAE. Last year, MAN took a major market share against other manufacturers. Among European manufacturers, MAN's market share is among the top five.

Apart from the sales, service and spare parts centre in Ghusais and a parts centre in Garhoud, there are two more group service and engineering centres in the Northern Emirates ensuring 100 per cent support for the MAN vehicles.

"We provide continuous service to customers. The central spare parts depot in Mussafah stocks over 35,000 spare parts items at all times," he added.

Customers in UAE include very small operators, large fleets, oil and construction companies of all sizes as well as public authorities and the ministries.

In Europe, the Trucknology Generation has won several international awards, including the "Truck of the Year 2001" title from an international jury of trade journalists.
