Though the government has recently revised downward the LPG base price but there was no sign of a let-up in prices of 11 Kg LG cylinder across the country as many dealers were charging the same prices from the consumers.

The price of LPG went up in the wake of the government move to link the base price of local stock with international market since January 3, 2007. The consumer price of each cylinder was in the range of Rs484 to 600 at the end of July 2007. In December 2006, the average price of each cylinder was Rs510. As there was no check from the government, consumers are at the mercy of retailers who demand price on their own particularly in the rural areas and northern areas including Chitral, Dir etc.

LPG Distributors and Welfare Association Chairman Hadi Khan has demanded that government should fix the base price for local LPG production lesser by 20 per cent in comparison to international market.

He said that though oil and gas regulatory authority has revised the base price downward but its impact has not been transferred to the consumers. He said that due to the Ogra announcement the LPG price now arrived at Rs40, 829 per tonne inclusive of general sales tax.
