Industry, tech expos draw crowds in Dubai

More than 100 companies from 21 countries are taking part in the industrial exhibition Tekno 2017 which opened at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday.

Inaugurated by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group chairman and CEO and chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp, the three-day exhibition showcases products, services and technologies from Austria, Canada, China, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

"Over the years, the exhibition has witnessed presence from several key players of the industry. This year, the exhibition has participants from Germany, Turkey, China and Vietnam which underlines Dubai's position as a strategic hub for industrial products, technologies and services," bin Sulayem said.

The UAE is accelerating its efforts to boost the manufacturing, metal and machinery sector. While the country is aiming to attract $75 billion by 2025 into the country's industrial manufacturing sector, it is noted that aluminum and metal exports have witnessed a growth of 13 per cent whereas machinery and equipment exports have grown by 11 per cent.

"The UAE has become a destination of choice for businesses. The manufacturing, metal and machinery sector in the country adopts the highest standards of quality and are committed to sustainability and environment protection," said Rupashree Singh, exhibition manager, Al Fajer Information & Services - the organiser of the exhibition.

On Sunday, Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, director-general of the Dubai Department of Information, inaugurated the International Autumn Trade Fair at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"With VAT to be introduced soon, UAE citizens and trade partners can expect a positive influence on trade and economy. VAT has been implemented after careful consideration and consultation with businessmen, banks and economic bodies," said Al Maktoum.

The exhibition will run till December 19.
