Organic food products from Indian farms will now be made available to UAE residents as part of a new partnership between a leading UAE supermarket chain and Indian organic food producer.

More than 80 organic food products including cereals, pulses, spices and fruit juices will be sold in Choithrams stores across the country, following the chain’s partnership with Indian organic food producer, 24 Mantra Organic.

“We already have organic products but this is the first time Indian organic products will be sold in our stores. We will introduce more organic products if there is a demand from customers,” said Subhash Kurup, retail marketing manager of Choithrams.

All the farms, processing facilities and products produced by the company are certified for US, European and Indian organic standards and ISO:22000-2005 food safety standard.

The food producer works with 18,000 farmers covering 80,000 acres of farmland in India to produce between 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes of organic food in a year. Strict quality control measures are put in place to meet international hygiene and food safety regulations.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Raj Seelam, managing director of 24 Mantra Organic, said: “Organic food is all about trust. We have control from the seed to the kitchen and each food product can be traced back to the farm and the farmer who cultivated it.”

The new product line is expected to be more affordable than existing organic products in the UAE.

“Organic products originating from India are almost always cheaper than products from other markets. All our products are free from pesticides, preservatives, harmful chemicals and are wholesome, healthy and nutritious,” added Seelam.

Brown rice, peanut and wheat, among others, are some of the most popular products produced by the company.
