The Expo 2020 Dubai is the best platform to showcase Peru to the region and the world, according to a senior official from the South American country.
"The Expo 2020 Dubai is a great opportunity to show the wonders of Peru to the more than 15 million people, who, according to the organisers, will visit it. We will take the best that our country has to offer the world, with special emphasis on our biodiversity, cultural expressions, gastronomy, export products and major tourist attractions," Eduardo Ferreyros, commissioner general of Peru for Expo 2020 Dubai, told Khaleej Times.
"In addition, we want to show the public in the Mena and international region that Peru is a country that projects itself in the future in a sustainable way, respecting our traditions and ancient history," he added.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Peruvian pavilion at Expo 2020 was held in November 2019. Under the theme 'Timeless, Always Peru', the pavilion rising in the Mobility District of the Expo site, will bring to life the country's cultural diversity and ancient wisdom that still surprise the world.
The pavilion will feature a unique architectural design that evokes the path that the nation has traveled throughout its existence telling stories of 10,000 years.
"The (pavilion) entrance will be made through the representation of the Q'eswachaca suspension bridge, whose renewal is a tradition that happens every year, dating back centuries, and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition, it will show our cultural wealth and the superfoods that are produced in our country, so it will also be a space where business could be generated," Ferreyros said.
Peru has already lined up activities during the event to drive Expo visitors to its pavilion.
"We have identified a day for Peru during the Expo, which will be in January 2021. We are currently working on the details of the program that we will show during the six months of operation. However, we can anticipate that we will have cultural shows and a space dedicated to our gastronomy," Ferreyros said.
"Peru has been recognised for eight consecutive years as the Best Culinary Destination in the World by the World Travel Awards, and we want those who visit us to enjoy this as well," he added.
