Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) is India's apex trade promotion organisation mandated to promote India's electronics, telecom and IT exports to global markets.
With a wide array of membership, the council has been laying emphasis on facilitating the interaction of Indian SMEs with potential buyers in global market. Starting in 1989, with an export performance of $200 million, ESC has successfully steered India's electronics and software exports to $126 billion during 2017-18. ESC has a membership of over 2,000 electronics and software exporters.
ESC has its representative office in Dubai to service the Middle East Region represented by Kamal Vachani of Al Maya Group. With the help of Kamal Vachani, ESC has been organising India's participation in major events like Gitex in Dubai and Comex in Oman. ESC members use the services of ESC's regional office in Dubai to enhance their exports to the Middle East Region. Kamal Vachani represents ESC as a regional director in the Middle East.
Since the inception of regional representation in 1999 headed by Kamal Vachani as their representative for the UAE and Middle East, he has been very actively promoting the electronics and IT exports from India and since then the exports to the Middle East particularly to UAE have increased substantially.
ESC facilitates global interests of foreign companies interested in establishing business linkages in India. ESC's excellent match-making services help interested electronics and ICT companies to locate a reliable partner in India for their business requirements. The council helps in forging joint ventures, business/technology tie-ups, networking, business match-making between Indian electronics and computer software companies and rest of the world and provides information on India's electronics and software sector.
With the help of Make in India drive, India is on the path of becoming the hub for hi-tech manufacturing as global giants such as GE, Siemens, HTC, Toshiba, and Boeing have either set up or are in process of setting up manufacturing plants in India, attracted by India's market of more than a billion consumers and increasing purchasing power.
The government of India has taken several initiatives to promote a healthy environment for the growth of manufacturing sector in the country.
India's computer software and services exports registered a growth of 8.11 per cent during 2017-18 over the year 2016-17. In value terms, export in this sector increased form $111 billion estimated in 2016-17 to $120 billion in 2017-18. Export of electronics increased from $5.68 billion in 2016-17 to $6.07 billion in 2017-18 registering a growth of 6.80 per cent.
