The state could send only 9,380 pilgrims last year, that too after utilising unused quota of other states. It has been able to clear 6,196 wait-listed applicants in the light of the federal cabinet decision to raise the all-India Haj quota from 80,000 in 2005 to 100,000 during 2006.

The first Haj flight from the country would leave on December 10. The State Haj Committee has sought an alternate embarkation point at Nedumbassery in addition to Karipur to facilitate the easy transport of pilgrims. Air India will be carrying the pilgrims this year.
