With the aim to facilitate this, ITGAF held its first conference in December 2006.

This year the plan is to go a step further and include a one-day intensive workshop on November 11, a two-day workshop on December 9-10 followed by a one -day annual conference on December 11 themed "IT Governance: adopting leading practices." To manage, co-ordinate and run the programme ITGAF has appointed Orangerie as their event management partners.

Orangerie has extensive experience in handling events related to the audit and finance field and has successfully run the IIA and the IAAIA conferences in the region for a number of years.

The workshops and conference aim to bring together over 300 top managers from all IT departments/ establishments under the Government of Dubai. Participants will include Heads of IT department and executive/senior management members who hold the responsibility of leading IT Steering Committees or those responsible in decision making for major IT related projects or budget. The main aim of ITGAF is to drive the mission and expectations of the Financial Audit Department on Information Systems Audit, share experiences on best practices relating to Governance, Risk Management and Control of IT and to position IT Governance as an integral part of Corporate Governance. The idea is to brainstorm on the leading practices/frameworks for IT Governance and to establish a forum of information technology decision makers to network and facilitate continuous improvement to achieve these objectives.

The benefits of such a large scale conference is to gain further insights into the philosophy of Information Technology Governance, understand the existing gaps in practices in comparison with the leading practices, gather strategies to improve the control on using Information Technology and to promote IT Governance as an a functional component of Corporate Governance. Added to that the conference would benefit those who want to get introduced to a practical framework for IT Governance and to gain insight into the future shape of technology usage, know what the leaders are thinking and doing.
