The general consensus in the debate between corporate IT executives from across the region was that most of the significant frustrations experienced by IT executives could be resolved if the CIO was considered a more important strategic partner in achieving the organisation's mission.

“A high-performing IT leader is one whose plans are completely aligned with the organisation's business strategy. IT leaders need to work more and more like business leaders: They need to develop a vision, set goals and standards, provide resources and inspire talented people. They need to encourage specialised professionals to come up with great ideas,” said Dr Sabri Al Azazi, chief operating officer, Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, during his inaugural presentation.

In the closing session, Joseph Hanania, managing director, Middle East for HP highlighted the importance of the new responsibility of the CIO. "The management of change is key. IT must enable business value and profitability."
