Spyware is a software programme that sends information about internet sessions back to the computer from which it is launched. Often built into free downloads, spy ware works in the background without a user's knowledge. It is used to create marketing profiles based on surfing habits. Spyware, which is not considered a virus and cannot be prevented with traditional antivirus software or a firewall, is another threat to Middle East based corporate and home computer users.

Justin Doo, managing director of Trend Micro in the Middle East and Africa region, said: "Anyone who accesses the Internet is potentially at risk."
