In second quarter Asia Pacific region saw 11 per cent growth from last year and one per cent sequential growth. In Japan revenues were up one per cent from last year but down six per cent quarter to quarter. We have seen strong growth in the Arab world and the region is the second fastest growing market in the world for Intel. To address the Middle East market, we recently launched a host of new technologies, including faster Intel Core2 Duo processors, for the latest-generation Intel Centrino processor technology used in laptops for consumers and businesses. At the heart of the new Intel Centrino Duo and Intel Centrino Pro processor technology-based laptops is the next-generation of Intel Core2 Duo processor, which delivers mobile performance and responsiveness for demanding business users and consumers alike, added Patel.

Following Intel its main competitor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is also optimistic about the launch of 'Barcelona' which is a true quad-core processor and represents a major milestone for AMD.

Gautam Srivastava, AMD Vice-President, Sales and Marketing and Managing Director for Middle East, Africa, and Pakistan, said: "Barcelona processors are engineered to be compatible with today's thermal envelopes and power infrastructures. It delivers system efficiency, CPU efficiency, power efficiency, and virtualisation efficiency.Barcelona has been engineered for unparalleled performance and it offers a terrific performance-per-watt-per-dollar proposition, this means that it not only offers great performance, but also ensures that the heat levels remain low and are available to users at a very reasonable cost. "

The Middle East is one of the fast growing economies and it represents a significant market for AMD. Our primary focus for the region has been to work closely and build a strong relationship with our master distributors. We continue to strengthen our distribution network through our partners for our microprocessors and graphics products. AMD offers complete platform solutions to users. We are not just a microprocessor company; instead we build solutions that can address all parts of the platform, including microprocessors, chipsets and graphics.

Recently, AMD signed an agreement globally with Toshiba, wherein the latter will offer notebooks based on AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile technology and the AMD M690 Series Chipset. The AMD technology will help deliver users a superior mobile computing platform experience.Toshiba is the latest OEM to participate in the AMD Better by Design programme which enables leading global OEMs to design notebook PCs that provide users with better performance and superior graphics and wireless connectivity, while delivering increased energy efficiency for extended battery life.

AMD's open platform strategy enables leading global OEMs to design notebook PCs with a choice of leading graphics technologies that deliver performance and smooth video playback with increased energy efficiency for extended battery life. The AMD-based Toshiba notebooks will first be launched in the United States and Europe and very soon we are also looking at brining these notebooks to our customers in the MENA region.
