The super-G world champion had been preparing for the new season at Les Deux Alpes resort in France but continued to suffer discomfort in his back following the incident near Verona at an undisclosed time.

Innerhofer, who has to have complete rest for at least 10 days, says “it’s not a great time but I’m an optimist by nature and I hope everything will sort itself out soon.”

He hopes to be fit for the Italy alpine skiing squad training trip to Argentina starting on Aug. 24.

Innerhofer won three medals at the last world championships.
