Prices of bajra, gram, barley, poultry chicken, wheat, raw rubber, raw cotton, raw jute, sunflower, fibres, sugar, lead ingots were down, according to government data released yesterday.

The wholesale price-based inflation stood at 3.90 per cent in the corresponding week last year.

In food articles, prices of moong, masur and milk were costlier while in manufactured items titanium dioxide, building bricks, zinc, pan masala, beedi and biscuits moved up.

Among other food products, vegetables which in the previous week rose by over 23 per cent, turned cheaper by 0.7 per cent.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram had attributed the price rise to five factors, which included mismatch in demand -supply situation of farm products. He had said the mismatch first started with sugar and then switched to wheat and pulses.

Other food products, bajra and barley also became cheaper by two per cent each. Prices of poultry chicken, maize, wheat, condiments and spices fell by one per cent.

Non-food articles including raw rubber, raw cotton and sunflower also turned cheaper by eight per cent, four per cent and three per cent respectively.
