The International Boxing Association has imposed a year- long ban on Indian boxer Sarita Devi along with the imposition of a 1000 CHF (Swiss Frank) fine. The ban comes as a response to her refusal to accept the bronze medal for the semi-final boxing gameat the Incheon Asian Games in October, 2014.
It was Sarita Devi’s South Korean opponent Park Ji-nawho happened to be controversially adjudged as the winner of their semi-final game, when the audience to the sport felt that it was Sarita Devi who was better than her opponent.
It was at the presentation ceremony that Sarita Devi refused to accept the bronze medal bestowed to her.
Sarita Devi will now be eligible to return to the sport only on November 2015, when she’d be just in time for the women’s Olympic qualifiers for the Rio Games to be held in 2016.
