IDEX 2003: 30pc more corporate participants

DUBAI The number of corporate participants in IDEX 2003 has increased by 30 to 35 per cent, according to Saeed Jabr Al Suwadi, chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Inmdustry and deputy chairman of organisers GEC.

He said: "Companies has been asking for more space and there has been not a single cancellation of bookings or reservations".

He said that British companies are taking part in the exhibition in sizeable number, and the UAE would welcome the possibilities of any joint ventures with local companies for the production of defense hardware which would pave the way for technology transfers.

A high level delegation from UK is taking part, led by Alan Garwood, Head of the Defence Export Services Organisation (DESO). Over 30 companies are displaying their equipments at the UK partnership pavilion.

These companies include Advantage Business Group, Agusta Westland, Ametek Air Control, ALVIS , Automotive Technik, AVON Technical Products, BAE SYSTEMS, BDL Systems, Compton Webb , CQC LTD, Eurest Support Services, Flight Refuelling/ Wallop Defence Systems, Flir Systems, Hawker, GB Britton/ UKS Group, Hobson & Sons (London), International Safety products, Irvin GQ, MDH Defence, Meggit Defence Systems, Powerfield, Racal Instruments, Rolls Royce, Simrad Optronics, Smiths Detection, Television Installation Services, T.W. Kemption (Corporate Clothing). VT Shipbuilding, William Cook Defence and the Defence Export Services Organisation, which is a part of the UK Ministry of Defence.

Gulf Air, which has been appointed the offical carrier to the IDEX 2003, has announced 20 per cent discounts on fares on economy class excluding AGCC states and 20 per cent discounts on published fares to delegates, exhibitors and attendees travelling to the UAE from any of Gulf Air's online destinations.
