Iberotel Hotels to manage Dh800m Fujairah project

Ashraf Helmy, general manager, Iberotel, said the overall project in the emirate of Fujairah will be finished by 2009 and is composed of two resort-hotels and a shopping and dining area to make up a self-contained community but without residential complexes.

He said Iberotel and its partners would like to take advantage of the growing number of local and foreign tourists wanting to escape the hustle-and-bustle of city life on weekends or during longer vacations. He added that Fujairah is the best location for resort-hotels in the UAE due to its beautiful Indian Ocean beachfronts and quiet environment.

First-phase of the project is the Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort, a Dh250-million five-star hotel development with aqua centre for spa and wellness facilities, and water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing, para-sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving, among others.

It will have more than 300 rooms and 18 suites, two of which have private swimming pools. The hotel, whose construction began last year, will open next month.

With 220 metres of beachfront in Fujairah's Al Aqah area, the property will accommodate the weekenders from Dubai and other UAE emirates and the growing number of Western tourists lured by the beautiful beaches of the UAE.

Helmy said the project's second-phase also involves a high-end resort-hotel worth Dh300 million. Called Royal Miramar, it will be launched next month and construction will run until 2009. The project has 368 rooms and suites, and some villas.

The third-phase involves a lake surrounded by restaurants and 70 shops and a conference centre as an added-support to the business centre facilities in the two resort-hotels. Construction of the final project will start by end-2007.

Helmy said the famous Egyptian architectural house, Rami ElDahan, is the designer of the whole project. The project design rooted in Arabic culture and heritage.

He said the Travco project is in line with Fujairah's effort to develop its resort sector into a world-class hospitality industry.

Aside from Fujairah's beautiful beaches, the local government is banking on its mountain chains and archaeological sites to attract several multi-billion dirham property investments.
