Good business for travel and tourism

DUBAI - The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing' (DTCM) has been highly praised by the travel and tourism trade which continues to benefit immensely from the significant increase in the number of tourists as a result of the energised efforts towards promoting Dubai as a perfect round-the-year destination for business and leisure.

Like the Hotel and Hotel Apartment Group, the Travel and Tourism Group has reported good business during this summer and expressed confidence about another round of good results in winter as well on the back of promotional campaigns by the department in different parts of the world.

The Travel and Tourism Group held its fourth meetingrecently at the department's headquarters under the patronage and presence of the DTCM Director-General Khalid A bin Sulayem.

Mubarak bin Fahd, Director General of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), also attended the meeting and briefed the participants about the Dubai 2003, the new international Convention Centre and the calendar of exhibitions and conferences for the 2004 to 2008 period.

The participants said there has been a marked increase in the business from Japan and CIS markets, especially after the launch of direct flights by the Emirates Airline. They also reported big increases in tourists coming from other parts of the world, including France, the UK, Italy, Turkey and the Central Europe.

Members of the group thanked the department for its pro-active approach in soliciting feedback and recommendations to devise growth strategies and planning.

Members also discussed issues related to other government departments in reference to their businesses. The DTCM coordinates with other government organisations on issues pertaining to the tourism industry in Dubai as part of its aim to improve the standard of services offered to the tourists.

The meeting was informed that the AGCC Tourist Cooperation Committee has sought the assistance of the DTCM and the feed back of the industry on a proposal designed to facilitate the movement of tourist buses within the AGCC states.
