The Perma-Pipe Middle East plant, the largest of its kind in the Middle East, will roll out its first production in mid-April this year. It will have a capacity to insulate and jacket over 2 kms of pipe per day and will serve projects all throughout the Middle East and North Africa as well as parts of Asia.

The production value at the facility is expected to be in excess of $50 million per annum. Perma-Pipe's President, Fati Elgendy, said the a start-up investment of the plant is $9 million.

Perma-Pipe is the largest manufacturer of pre-insulated piping systems in North Americaand has a plant in Louisiana focused on the oil & gas industry.

The company has entered into a long-term lease with the Fujairah Free Zone Authority for the project. Construction work on the 12-acre site started in September, 2005 and it is one of the biggest projects to be set up in this region.

"The Government of Fujairah and the Fujairah Free Zone Authority have provided excellent support enabling us to fast-track the project in order to achieve start-up in record time,” Elgendy disclosed during the official opening of the Plant at Fujairah Freezone.

Elgendy said the Middle East manufacturing facility has the capability of insulating and jacketing pipes ranging from 50 mm up to 1800 mm in diameter. The custom designed, automated spray insulation process, assures high quality, efficient production and makes it the only facility in the world that can automatically insulate pipe in these large size ranges. In addition, PPME has welding and fabrication facilities to manufacture a complete range of pre-insulated pipe-fittings. “We support on-shore and off-shore applications. Perma-Pipe has a track record providing insulated piping systems for water depths down to 7,000 feet," said Soren Kjaer, Prema-Pipe's Sales Manager.

Kjaer said in addition to supporting district cooling applications, Prema-Pipe's products would serve the growing regional markets for insulated long lines for the transportation of chemicals, oil and gas, as well as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals.

He pointed out that these varied applications can operate between 196 and 250 C. The company also offers its proprietary leak-detection system and double containment systems for environmental applications.

Shaikh Saleh bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of Department of Industry and Economy, Fujairah, officially opened the plant. Also present was the FFZA Director-General, Sharief Habib Al Awadhi, who was accompanied by other government dignitaries.

Shaikh Saleh said the Fujairah Government has always provided the necessary incentives to investors for various developments in the East Coast.

"Fujairah is experiencing robust economic and industrial progress thanks to its strategic geographic positioning and its rapid pace of development within the UAE."

"The emirate is geared for greater economic, industrial, commercial and tourist growth," he said.
