MUSCAT — Aromatics Oman (AOL), a $1.68 billion petrochemical manufacturing major, has successfully completed the plant performance test run and achieved all the guarantees with the process licensor, Axens Technology of France, and the EPC contractor, GS Engineering and Construction from South Korea.
The Sohar Industrial Port-based plant’s performance guarantee test run, which started last week, was successfully completed on February 4, where all units of AOL operated at 100 per cent capacity.
AOL is a joint venture between state-owned Oman Oil Company (70 per cent), Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals Company (20 per cent) and LG International, Korea (10 per cent). MUSCAT — Two power and water desalination projects with total investments of 412mn rials to provide more than 800MW of power are coming up in the southern Dhofar governorate of Oman. The first phase of both the projects is expected to be operational in 2012.
The first project is a 385mn rials power and water desalination plant in A’shur Plain in the Wilayat of Mirbat and is a joint venture between Oman Investment Corporation and Sembcorp of Singapore. The new company, Sembcorp Salalah Power and Water Company, has to offer 35 per cent of its shares for public subscription within four years from the date of its registration.
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) will purchase the generated power and desalinated water estimated at 15 million gallons per day for 15 years from the date of commercial operation of the project. — business@khaleejtimes.com

DUBAI — The Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance and the UAE State Audit Institution (SAI) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving corporate governance within the UAE Public Sector and its state-owned enterprises.
