A division of Pearl Investments, the India-based Flora Group will open its Flora Creek hotel in Port Saeed by the last quarter of this year. "This marks the dynamic beginning of the Group's strategic expansion plan...which will see a further four properties open by 2010," said VA Hassan, chair and chief executive officer of Flora Group.

Pearl Investment is a leading business group in India with operations across the Middle East, Far East and South Asian countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia. Its Gulf operations began in 1994 in Oman's garments industry. In 1997, its operations were extended to Dubai.

Hassan said half of all Flora Group apartments here have the view of Dubai creek, making them a premium accommodation for both leisure and business travellers.

Flora Group has an annual turnover of Dh250 million, and launched its UAE operations in 2001 with the opening of Florida Hotel Dubai and Hotel Florida International. From 2003 to June 2006, Flora opened three more hotels in Dubai, namely Floral Hotel Apartments, Floral Grand Hotel and Flora Park Hotel Apartments.

"There was a gap in the market for travellers who desired city accommodation that provided them with traditional Arab hospitality, culture and values-and the success of Flora Group Hotels has been in filling this consumer need," Hassan said.

He added: "Dubai continues to present increasing opportunities for continued investment in the hospitality industry, with average occupancy rates of 74 per cent over the last five years."

Hassan said the group has a staff retention of 80 per cent over the past five years.
