The new entity, which is the first full-fledged ethics resource centre in this region, plans to train some 100 executives over next year.

In an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times, Alex Zalami, executive director of Dubai Ethics Resource Centre, said that the graduates of the centre’s programme will learn how to design and implement corporate responsibility programmes in their respective organisations.

He said that prior to the official launch there will be the first joint meeting of the centre’s executive and advisory committees to review the programme of the centre in preparation for the actual launch of the programme, which will take place immediately after the Holy month of Ramadan.

The executive committee, which will oversee the centre’s activities, will be represented by members of the Board of Directors of DCCI and academic and multinational organisations supporting the centre.

The Advisory Committee includes representatives from Dubai Financial Services Authority, Dubai Development Investment Authority, Dubai Financial Market, Dubai Institute for Human Resources Development, Dubai University College, American University of Sharjah, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as chairman of Ethics Resources Centre in Washington and chief executive officer of International Business Leadership Forum in London.

Zalami said: “Our mission is to raise the level of awareness of organisational ethics, corporate responsibility and standards of good governance through advocacy and research. We well try to empower private and public sector organisations to improve their governance standards and facilitate inter-sector collaboration to foster corporate responsibility, public accountability, transparency and rule of law.”

He said the centre would conduct a research during the next 12 months to develop a tailor-made programme for this region. “We won’t be be importing standards from anywhere, but promote common standards that are consistent with local environment and can apply everywhere,” he said.
