EtherCom is a key partner in DSO's collaborative approach to developing one of the world's leading microelectronics-based technology parks for advanced electronic innovation, design, development and manufacturing.

Nafis Ahmad, founder and president of EtherCom Corporation said: “The primary reasons for selecting DSO includes its proximity to large and potential markets, excellent infrastructure and logistics, the ability to meet increasing customer demands and access to readily available workforce in a very competitive tax free operating environment.’’

There is a substantial demand for these products with the global networking market rose more than 90 per cent in 2004. Worldwide metro Ethernet equipment revenue hit $ 3.8 billion in 2004 and is projected to double to $ 7.6 billion by 2008, according to Infonetics Research's latest report.

Ahmad added: “The opening of Ethercom's design hub will facilitate the sharing of advanced design methodology, design tools and end-to-end design.’’

Dr Salem Abuzeid, said: “Ethercom's move to establish a design centre at the Dubai Silicon Oasis reaffirms the strategy that is being developed and implemented to attract and retain global companies operating in electronics supply chain including integrated circuit design. The presence of EnterCom's design centre marks another important step in the development of Dubai Silicon Oasis.’’

EtherCom plans to tap into a rapidly growing fibre optic Ethernet and industrial Ethernet market in the Gulf and North Africa region. DSO site will enable the firm to foster stronger relations with regional customers as well as their design centre in Bangladesh.

“This partnership deal with EtherCom proves that DSO provides a viable alternative and a suitable environment for international companies to operate effectively. The continuous support of the Government of Dubai has been instrumental in DSO's ability to execute this strategy,’’ concluded Abuzeid.
