More than 400 applications for employment were received during the four day event. Standard Chartered Bank UAE has made a strong commitment, in line with UAE government directives, to hit a target of 30 per cent Emiratisation by the end of 2003, and the Career Fair is a great recruitment opportunity, according to Saleha Omair Al Bakri, Emiratisation, Planning and Development Manager at Standard Chartered Bank.

He said: "We have had a great deal of interest from a wide cross section of Emiratis. There is a host of benefits for employees at Standard Chartered Bank. We are looking to recruit people at all levels in all departments, but they have to have the right aptitude, attitude and commitment to pursue a career rather than just get a job."

Applications for employment placed at the fair are reviewed by the Emiratisation team before potential applicants are called for examination. An interview follows, with successful candidates being kept on file until a suitable vacancy arises. More than 50 companies, including local and foreign banks, government departments and free zones, took part in the four-day event, organised by the Human Resources Development Committee, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies.
