Dubai-UK trade surges 92pc

DUBAI - The two-way trade between Dubai and the United Kingdom grew by 92.1 per cent in 2003 over 2002 from Dh746 million to Dh1.4 billion.

According to Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the number of Dubai hotel establishment guests from the UK also rose in 2003 to 458,451while during the first half of 2004, 281,919 guests visited Dubai.

There was an increase of 15.2 per cent in passengers passing through Dubai airport in 2003 over 2002 from 1.62 million to 1.87 million. Yesterday, the Director General of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Khalid A bin Sulayem, received the Consul General of the United Kingdom in Dubai, John Hawkins, at the DTCM Head Office.
