Dubai Export Development Corporation, an agency of the Dubai Department of Economic Development, Government of Dubai, on Saturday unveiled its plan for the participation in a number of international exhibitions with the focus on these sectors. EDC is supporting local companies to participate in these trade shows, which will happen from October until November.

Among the events wherein EDC is exhibiting are France’s Sial Global Food Marketplace, the largest food exhibition in Europe; Saudi Build 2010, a construction technology and building materials exhibition; and Germany’s K Fair, the number one exhibition for plastics and rubber worldwide.

“Food, construction and the plastic sectors have consistently performed well as the most exported products from Dubai. Saudi Arabia, France and Germany are also among the leading destinations for Dubai trade and we at EDC would like to continuously foster our trade relations with them,” Engineer Saed Al Awadi, Chief Executive Officer, EDC, said.

According to Dubai Export Monitor, the direct exports for sugars and sugar confectionery products amounted to Dh1.68 billion, articles of iron and steel were Dh669 million, and products of plastics & articles totalled Dh2.63 billion in 2009.

In the same year, Saudi Arabia, France and Germany are among the top destinations for Dubai in terms of direct exports, with Saudi Arabia contributing Dh2.09 billion. Meanwhile, direct exports to Germany and France reached Dh326.43 million and Dh182.11 million respectively.

“Our participation in exhibitions held in these countries provides a great avenue for our local companies to showcase their products and services to potential clients in Europe and in the GCC. EDC will continue to support its members by opening doors to explore other exporting markets through international exhibitions,” he said.

Saudi Build 2010 is also being held from 18th to 21st October. EDC will organise a matchmaking event on the third day of the exhibition for over 60 participants from UAE exporters and Saudi Buyers. Sial, is happening from 17th to 21st October, at Paris France, with more than 150,000 trade visitors from the food industry across the world.
