Addressing the 6th Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Annual Suppliers Forum, which endorsed the theme of Meeting the Challenges of Globalisation through Alliances, Shaikh Ahmed yesterday highlighted the importance of DCA building strong relationships with its partners and suppliers and thanked the suppliers for their continued support. "In this age of globalisation, Dubai is facing numerous challenges. While we have managed to carve out a special place in the world of travel, tourism and business, we now need to ensure that we stay ahead," Shaikh Ahmed said in his inaugural speech.

The only way to do so, he added, is by "focusing on quality and increasing our standards. Our suppliers represent the first ring in the quality chain. As our suppliers you directly affect everything we offer to our customers. We appreciate the importance of our suppliers and our strategic plan is aimed towards developing useful relationship for both of us. Our strategy reflects our efforts in finding continuous means of improving our relationship and this forum has been organised to assist us both to understand each other better."

The one-day forum was organised by the DCA, Dubai Duty Free and DCA's Strategy and Management Excellence Division.

Jamal Al Hai, Director Strategy & Management Excellence, DCA, said the suppliers forum has been growing over the years. "When we first organised the suppliers forum, we had only 100 suppliers taking part and this year, we have more than 800 suppliers. We are living in a fast moving world, where time means money, and I am sure by understanding each other and communicating we will have a fruitful relationship."

During the event awards for the Distinguished Suppliers and Distinguished Partners were also presented.
