Dubai eGovernment expects Dh210m worth transactions
DUBAI - Dubai eGovernment is expeActing Dh210 million worth of revenue from transactions done through electronic payments by the end of this year, from the present Dh196 million.

This was announced yesterday by Salem Al Shair, director of services at Dubai eGovernment, who said that his department also expects that 50 per cent of public transactions be done electronically by end-2007.
He said his office wants the public to make use of the eServices system hatched by the government to provide an easier and faster public service.

He added that eGovernment and other public agencies have been having an education and information campaign through e-mail and mobile phone messages to promote eServices.
Dubai eGovernment has bested its counterparts in the Middle East for excellence in the use of internet and other forms of communications and information technology (ICT) in providing services to the public.
Al Shair told reporters that his department won the Best eGovernment Programme in the Middle East award at the recently concluded international conference, Leaders in Dubai Summit.
The summit and the awarding body were organised by event management firm IIR Middle East.
"It was an honour for us...to receive the award at the Leaders in Dubai Summit which had distinguished knowledge leaders and captains of the industry from all over the world," he said.
He added that the success of Dubai including that of eGovernment got "carried to all corners of the globe" during the summit, which had Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mohammed Yunus and Kofi Annan, former UN general-secretary, among its speakers.
"It wasn't a difficult task for us to choose Dubai eGovernment as the best eGovernment programme in the region," said Brett King, vice-president of the American Academy of Financial Management, in a statement.
The academy was one of the judges at The Middle East Business Achievement Awards, or MEBA, which was created to honour business success and innovation across the region.
King said in a statement that Dubai eGovernment was "ahead of the rest in terms of information technology infrastructure, efficiency, number of electronic services offered and user-friendliness of services".
Launched in April 2000, eGovernment provides online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the UAE emirate of Dubai.
