Dubai, Abu Dhabi shares gain for second day

DUBAI — Shares in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi general indices advanced for the second consecutive day yesterday. The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) General Index climbed 1.3 per cent to 4,267.66 points while the Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) Index jumped 2.1 per cent to 3,418.71 points.

Except for the materials and common staples indices, which remained flat, all other indices in the Dubai benchmark increased between 0.4 per cent to 4,375 (utilities index) and 1.62 per cent to 9,762.87 (real estate). The number of traded shares reached over 474 million, having a total value of some Dh2 billion.

International Financial Advisers ended at the top-rung of DFM, jumping 14.4 per cent to Dh8.75, followed by Global Investment House with a rise of 8 per cent to Dh11. The other big winners were Commercial Bank of Dubai, which rose 5 per cent to Dh8.37, and Arabtec Holding, which gained 4 per cent to Dh5.27. TAMWEEL gained 3 per cent to Dh4.35, Union Properties increased 2.5 per cent to Dh2.89, and Dubai Islamic bank increased 2.2 per cent to Dh9.32.
