The announcement was made after a meeting involving officials of both departments at The Tamani Hotel Marina on Monday. The road show is supported by Emirates airline, Tamani Hotels, and Alpha Tours.

The GCC road show will tour Kuwait (May 31), Qatar (June 2), and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (June 12-16). The event is an annual initiative undertaken by DTCM and DEPE to highlight Dubai as a tourist attraction and promote DSS that attracted 2.2 million visitors in 2009. Numerous hotels and tour and travel companies will also promote travel packages and discounted hotel tariffs during the road show.

Talal Al Suwaidi, Head of Region, India, Middle East and North Africa, Overseas Promotions and Inward Missions Department at DTCM said: “DTCM has been at the forefront of organising initiatives such as this road show to promote Dubai and its attractions across GCC. Dubai Summer Surprises is an integral part of Dubai’s calendar and this GCC tour, along with travel and tour companies, gives us an opportunity to welcome GCC visitors to Dubai for an exciting summer vacation for the whole family.

“As part of the tour itinerary, we will organise a Press meet for the media in each GCC destination before the commencement of the workshop,” added Talal.

Mohammed Al Kamali, Acting Marketing Director of DEPE said: “Ever since Dubai Summer Surprises was launched in 1998, we have seen an increasing number of visitors from the GCC. Without a doubt, this market has the potential to grow exponentially in the coming years and this road show is part of a larger strategy to promote not just DSS but position Dubai as a family-oriented, affordable, and world-class destination that is easily accessible from any city in the GCC. The presence of DTCM and leading travel and tourism entities in this road show reflects the close cooperation between the public and private sector in positioning Dubai as the leading destination in the Middle East.”

The DEPE team will showcase the major attractions of DSS 2010 to GCC audiences during the tour. The campaign for this year’s DSS is titled ‘Dubai, Your Summer Destination of Surprises’. This year’s DSS hopes to attract the participation of more than 6000 retailers in its shopping promotion. This is in addition to the multitude of international shows and Modhesh World — the 37,000 square-metre indoor edutainment venue that is also the largest such venue in the region.

Keeping in trend with the expanding health and wellness industry in the Middle East, DEPE will also promote the ‘Spa Packages’, an exclusive campaign that features spectacular promotions over 35 renowned international spas in Dubai. The initiative gives spa enthusiasts the option of choosing from hundreds of spa treatments at discounted rates.
