Dollar mixed in Asia over banking worries

TOKYO - The dollar was mixed in Asian trade on Tuesday as traders focused on fresh signs of trouble in the US banking sector.

The dollar rose to 98.08 yen in Tokyo morning trade from 97.90 in New York late Monday. The euro gained to 1.2911 dollars from 1.2889, rebounding from a one-month low, and climbed to 126.61 yen from 126.49.

Financial markets were rattled after US giant Bank of America said it had boosted its reserves to cover soured loans—even as it posted a profit of 4.2 billion dollars—as borrowers continue to struggle to repay debt.
